Position Summary

Create a safe learning community for students. Performs a variety of tasks such as carrying out assigned nursing tasks and activities, promoting safety and well-being, and collecting and recording student data. Support the implementation of nursing supports aligned to the District’s Core Values, and Mission, creating a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential and access their chosen path. Establish relationships with students, parents, and colleagues to foster a sense of belonging and community. Some positions require aptitude and skill in working with the particular disabilities or learning needs of students.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Registered Nurse in Oregon
  2. Experience in school nursing, pediatrics, or community health nursing with school aged children preferred 
  3. Must have a valid Oregon driver’s license
  4. Must meet all other TSPC license requirements, including Background and Criminal History Clearance
  5. Demonstrates a high level of communication skills and meets District standards for oral and written language proficiency in English, and if applicable, in Spanish or Russian.
  6. Skill in leadership and facilitation, including problem-solving and conflict resolution
  7. Knowledge of human growth and development at assigned level(s)
  8. Knowledge of effective student behavior management methods
  9. Appropriate integration of technology
  10. Ability to seek professional growth and qualify for certification by following both state and district regulations.
  11. Demonstrates support for District Core Values, District Mission, and District Strategic Plan
  12. Believes all students can learn and holds high expectations for students



Essential Functions

 

  • Essential Responsibilities Related to the Position

 

    1. Develops appropriate individual health plans to administer specialized health interventions and services to students with special health care needs. 
    2. Provides routine health care for students in buildings. 
    3. Oversees medication administration, and trains staff that will assist in the administration of medication according to state regulations. 
    4. Trains and delegates tasks to designated staff members. 
    5. Cares for emergency medical needs of students and staff members. Is available and accessible for emergency care during work hours.
    6. Develops rapport with students and parents to facilitate communication and care. 
    7. Communicates with parents, school personnel, health care providers, clinics, and other agencies on student health matters, as appropriate 
    8. Coordinates and collaborates with other health agencies and providers for activities such as hearing and vision screening and dental health services. 
    9. Assists school secretaries with Immunization Reports. 
    10. Orders and maintains medical supplies such as bandaids, gloves, AED kits, COVID testing kits, etc., and keeps health rooms adequately stocked. 
    11. COVID tasking as needed, may include screening, insolation, documentation, and reporting.
    12. Maintains student health records to ensure that immunization and other health requirements are being met by the District.
    13. Serves as a resource to teachers on student health concerns, including COVID protocols.
    14. Makes recommendations to the superintendent and principals on the health needs of students. 
    15. Assists district safety committee and administrators in developing school health programs. 
    16. Participate in the work of safety and wellness-related committees. 
    17. Implements district policies and procedures on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases, including COVID-19. 
    18. Participates in in-service training programs. Delivers health-related training to facilitate appropriate staff to be trained.
    19. Assists school personnel in maintaining sanitary standards in schools.

    1. Maintain appropriate certifications and training hours as required. 
    2. Comply with applicable District, state, local, and federal laws, rules, and regulations.
    3. Provide appropriate documents as requested by the District Auditor selected by the Board
    4. Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality when dealing with student information
    5. Complies with professional development activities as required by the District.
    6. Demonstrates computer literacy and operates software programs as related to job responsibilities.
    7. Maintains accurate, complete, and confidential records as required by law and District policy and regulations.
    8. Work as a team in providing customer service, including but not limited to answering telephone calls, greeting visitors, answering inquiries from students, parents, and community members, and referring visitors to appropriate staff members
    9. Collaborates and confers with students, parents, colleagues, and community members in a harmonious and respectful manner.
    10. Demonstrates an awareness of and sensitivity to multicultural and multilingual values and environments
    11. Demonstrates support for District Core Values, District Mission, and District Strategic Plan.
    12. Follows all safety rules and takes all reasonable precautions to provide a safe and secure working environment.
    13. Follows all laws, District policies, rules, regulations, memos, announcements, and reasonable requests by proper authority.
    14. Maintains regular attendance at work and work activities, and is punctual in meeting deadlines, attending meetings, and following schedules.
    15. Perform such other tasks (which may require knowledge of other job descriptions) as may seem appropriate to the Board or Administration.

Other Requirements/Responsibilities

  1. Must maintain a First Aid and/or CPR Card
  2. The employee is expected to be dressed and groomed in a neat, clean, and appropriate professional manner for the assignment and work setting
  3. This position is performed primarily indoors in school buildings and offices, although some outdoor work or supervision may be required
  4. Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  5. In cases in which the employee is required to travel between sites, the employee is responsible for his/her own travel and will be reimbursed for approved mileage
  6. Possible exposure to bodily fluids due to the student or employee illness or injury
  7. May be required to serve as a Delegated Caregiver or Designated First Aid Provider

Special Consideration

  • Bilingual Spanish is preferred, but not required

 

Evaluation

The performance will be evaluated in accordance with applicable District Performance Standards and District Policy and Regulations concerning personnel evaluation.

 

Following the probationary period, the performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on the evaluation of classified personnel.
